Charleston, SC has always been a city known for its delectable restaurant choices, but most assume that to enjoy the finest culinary experience you must make reservations downtown. Yes, there are many amazing fine dining options in the area, but where should you go wherever you are craving something yummy but more relaxed? Delicious food can be found everywhere in the Charleston metropolitan area, including on our beaches. From shrimp and grits for breakfast to tuna nachos for dinner, you can find local dining spots on our beaches serving up some of the most mouthwatering cuisines all while enjoying a casual, laid-back atmosphere. Here are some of our favorite spots to relax while enjoying an amazing meal:

Islander 71 Fish House & Deck Bar

Conveniently located on the gorgeous Intracoastal waterway next door to the Isle of Palms Marina, this is the island’s newest waterfront restaurant. Reminiscent of the laid-back 70’s beach life, here, you’ll enjoy great food, specialty cocktails, cold beer, laughter, and some of the most amazing sunsets.

Acme Lowcountry Kitchen

For seafood with a Southern flare, head to Acme Lowcountry Kitchen on Isle of Palms. Everyone is welcomed to this casual yet upscale establishment. The menu is full of fresh, local ingredients and seafood. They specialize in shrimp and grits, a Charleston classic, with at least six different homemade variations!

Coda Del Pesce

Coda Del Pesce makes an excellent date night or celebration dinner with the family. This Isle of Palms restaurant serves delicious Italian seafood dishes prepared with fresh, local seafood. Enjoy homemade pasta, gnocchi, and more with a coastal twist!

Sea Biscuit Café

If you’re looking for one of the best Isle of Palms restaurants for an excellent breakfast spot, head to Sea Biscuit Café! Here, you’ll find everything from classic breakfast dishes to Lowcountry specialties. We recommend their omelets, french toast, and of course, the biscuits. It’s the perfect place to fuel up before heading out to the beach for a day of fun!

The Obstinate Daughter

Located on Sullivan’s Island, this quaint restaurant offers ambiance, memorable food, and freshly-squeezed drinks for a truly wonderful dining experience. The space is elegant yet cozy and is complemented by beautiful nautical décor. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, but the pizzas and pasta are always a crowd favorite.

Home Team BBQ

Home Team BBQ has three locations in the Charleston area but the Sullivan’s Island location is our favorite and is just minutes from the beach! Enjoy delicious barbeque and other southern fares in a casual and lively atmosphere. This is a great place to eat and enjoy a refreshing drink after a day at the beach.

Mex 1 Coastal Cantina

Mex 1 Coastal Cantina offers fresh and flavorful southwestern-style Mexican food, delicious margaritas, and ice-cold beer. The authentic flavors and coastal vibes might have you mistaking Sullivan’s Island for the California coast! With frequent live music on the weekends, Mex 1 is a fun and energetic place to hang out.

Poe’s Tavern

Poe’s Tavern is best known for its burgers and beer. The eclectic spot is full of Poe-inspired décor that perfectly compliments the pub-style fare. Come for the burgers and stay for the drinks, good vibes, and people-watching! It’s Edgar Allan Poe approved!

Bowens Island

While this locally loved restaurant isn’t technically on the beach, we think it’s close enough. Located 5 minutes from Folly Beach, Bowens Island is famous for its locally harvested oysters, fried shrimp, hushpuppies, cold beer, and its undisturbed view of the river, marshes, and wildlife. But be warned, this one-of-a-kind place doesn’t have air conditioning, but the food is so good, you won’t even notice.

Lost Dog Café

Lost Dog Café is one of the most delicious stops if you’re searching for breakfast to power up for a long day on Folly Beach, or for a charming location to enjoy a family brunch. With a menu full of both classic favorites and innovative creations, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Rita's Seaside Grille

After ending your day at Folly Beach head over to Rita’s to enjoy good food, a friendly atmosphere, and the most amazing tuna nachos you will ever have. In addition to the fabulous cuisine, Rita’s boasts an extensive drink menu, year-round patio seating, live music seven days a week, and plenty of TVs so you never miss any of the big games!
