Explore King Street

King Street is one of the most famous locations in all of Charleston. If there’s any place more popular than downtown King Street, we certainly haven’t found it! King Street boasts some of the city's trendiest restaurants and sophisticated cocktail scenes along with hotels, art galleries, flourishing businesses, and lively nightlife ~ not to mention some seriously exceptional shopping.

Visit Fort Sumter National Monument

Of all the historically famous locations in Charleston, Fort Sumter is probably at the top of the list. In 1861, Confederate forces took Fort Sumter, officially kicking off the Civil War. Today, the Fort stands as a memorial to that famous battle in one of the most infamous wars in American history. Since the fort is only accessible by boat, visiting times are limited throughout the year. The National Parks Service website has a schedule showcasing which days the boat runs, as well as the times when you can visit the fort. Make it a full day and plan to visit the USS Yorktown aircraft carrier and Maritime Museum, South Carolina’s largest museum before or after your Fort Sumter tour. Special discounts offered for active and retired military.

Relax at Waterfront Park

Slow down and take a moment to relax at Downtown Charleston's Waterfront Park. Just a few short blocks from Meeting Street, off of East Bay Street, Waterfront Park is a city favorite for locals and tourists alike. Built in 1990, this park offers beautiful waterfront scenery, warm summertime breezes, relaxing swings, a pineapple water fountain for children (and adults) to play under, as well as plenty of room to kick off your shoes, sit in the grass and enjoy the South the way it is meant to!

Journey Through Charles Towne Landing

Just a short drive from Downtown Charleston, Charles Towne Landing is the ultimate go-to for all ages. With an animal forest, an indoor museum, hands-on exhibits, and numerous trails, it is guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser. With 80 acres of beautiful landscape, enjoy a leisurely stroll or rent a bicycle to cover more ground and see all that this amazing “blast from the past” has to offer.

Have an Adventure at James Island County Park

The James Island County Park offers nearly 650 acres of outdoor fun. Explore one of the many walking and biking trails, or cool off with the seasonal spray play fountain. You can also bring Fido with you too, he’s sure to enjoy the off-leash dog park. There are grills available too, to add some extra oomph to your picnic. Much of the park is right on the water, so you’re in for some beautiful South Carolina views to really liven up your day!

Have a Splash at the South Carolina Aquarium

There is plenty to do and see in Charleston, SC, but one of our largest attractions is the South Carolina Aquarium. Who doesn’t love a trip to the aquarium? Children love it because they have the opportunity to see really cool sea creatures, like sharks and penguins. Parents and adults love it because aquariums are informative and educational, plus a great way to get out of the house, or to explore if you are visiting! How awesome does it sound to come to an aquarium that’s next to the ocean and has a ton of live, actual sea life? Pretty wild, right?!  We think so, too!
