Are you ready to race and have some fun? In Charleston, SC, one of the most popular events we host each year is the annual Cooper River Bridge Run. This year’s race is on Saturday, April 6, 2024, with registration ending on September 24, 2023. The Bridge Run attracts over 40,000 runners and walkers from all over South Carolina and beyond. Locals line the streets to cheer on the participants and it all ends with a big festival! Whether this is your 10th race or your first, if you’re in Charleston during the month of April, you need to experience the Cooper River Bridge Run at least once. Here’s all the info you want to know!

It’s Not Just a Race, It’s an Experience!

And They’re Off!

The Cooper River Bridge Run begins in Mount Pleasant and all participants must wear their race bib in order to participate. There are six race categories depending on your ability level, so you don’t need to feel pressured if you are not at your peak physical performance. Oftentimes, runners enjoy dressing up in fun, silly costumes. In past races, we have seen superheroes, rockstars, cowboys, aliens, people dressed as animals, and even a full lighthouse. The runners race over the breathtaking Arthur Ravenel Bridge and into downtown Charleston. Even for some of the fastest runners, this can still be a run of 45 minutes or more, so make sure you pace yourself! Thankfully, spectators are on hand to offer support, encouragement, and water. The cheering is especially loud as you round the final corner on  Meeting Street. In total, it’s over a six-mile run. But hurry and sign up today as registration ends in September!

For Spectators

Make sure you arrive downtown early to get a parking spot as they will fill up very quickly! Be aware that some roads will be closed due to the race, so you may have to adjust your regular driving routes. If you have a loved one taking part in the race, you can track their progress via a phone app. Otherwise, make sure to cheer on the runners as they go by! Afterward, stay awhile and enjoy the festivities, including music, food vendors, and more. Make sure your runner gets a well-deserved break though, because they have definitely earned it!
